Advocacy & representation

Through advocacy you have a voice. FPSV helps you and your industry raise awareness of skills and workforce issues and influence decision-makers to bring about change that benefits your industry. Advocacy efforts ultimately produce a better trained workforce with the skills you need.

How does advocacy work?

Successful advocacy requires strong evidence, data and facts, and that’s where you come in!

Primary Industry Advisory Group

The Victorian Skills Authority convenes 10 Industry Advisory Groups (IAGs) which represent Victoria’s key employing industries and include representatives from unions and employer peak bodies.  IAGs provide the VSA with specialised knowledge and insights into skills and workforce challenges, current and future skills needs, and potential solutions.

FPSV provides Executive Services to the Primary Industry Advisory Group, one of the 10 IAGs.  This group consists of representatives across the following areas:

  • Horticulture
  • Agriculture
  • Wildcatch and Aquaculture
  • Thoroughbred and Greyhound Racing and other equine related areas
  • Animal Care and Management
  • Meat processing

A number of industry associations are invited participants on the Primary IAG. Members canvas their own members’ views and advocate on their behalf.  The Primary IAG meets three times per year.

FPSV is currently seeking representation from associations involved with Animal Care and Management.  Please contact FPSV if you are interested in representing your industry sector on the Primary IAG.

Industry Skills and Training Committees

FPSV works with its members to conduct face to face and online workshops aimed at building a snapshot of current and future skills and training needs as viewed by industry stakeholders, such as business owners.

Workshops can be ad hoc or more formal, such as a standing advisory committee.  FPSV can also design and administer industry skills and training surveys to inform Skills Snapshots.

The insights in Skills Snapshots can be used as the basis for further work to address challenges, support skills and training opportunities, and to provide detailed skills and training advice to the Victorian Skills Authority.

Ad hoc feedback

You don’t need to participate in workshops or committees to provide your thoughts on skills-related matters.  You may have some feedback about training outcomes, access to vocational training, or industry skills needs.

We are always happy to assist where we can.  FPSV maintains a detailed issues register, so simply message us with your feedback. We will examine the issue further and recommend appropriate action.
