Animal breeding qualifications relate primarily to horse breeding. Whilst horse breeders are responsible for breeding horses, they are also responsible for the selection, care and maintenance of athletic, work and show horses, and to manage horse farms, tracks, stables, and related equipment and operations.
Horse breeding also involves maintaining and improving certain characteristics of a breed or blood line from one generation to the next. Breeders are also tasked with the job of producing new horses that exhibit certain traits, such as color, strength, behavior and speed.
Stud hands assist with handling, grooming, feeding and exercising horses, foaling duties, cleaning and maintaining stables, yards and equipment. They may also assist Vets and Farriers and may even assist with Artificial Insemination (AI) procedures or preparation of horses for sale.
With more experience you may become a Stud Farm Manager, or specialise in breeding of yearlings, stallions or broodmares.
