Arborists specialise in maintenance, preservation, fertilising, pest and disease management and pruning and removal of trees and shrubs, predominantly in the urban environment. This profession also extends into rural areas, or where human intervention has occurred such as roads, trainlines, powerline and gas easements.
Arborists also work in areas frequented by humans, such as national and state parks/reserves around assets including visitor centres, carparks and walking trails. Practising Arborists perform ground-based and aerial work using mechanical lift equipment and/or specialise in tree-climbing.
Consulting arborists prepare tree reports, and conduct tree hazard assessments, environmental quantification for pollution removal, carbon sequestration, amenity tree valuations, tree impact assessments where activities are to occur within the vicinity of a tree, visual tree inspections and surveys.
