Inquiry into agricultural education & training

The Victorian Parliament’s Education & Training Committee is conducting a review into the effectiveness of the current scope of agricultural training to meet Victorian workforce needs.

The Committee Chairman, Mr David Southwick MP, has noted that, “Employment in the Australian sector is predicted to increase by 27,100 jobs over the next five years, however, there is widespread concern that employee supply will struggle to keep pace with this future demand.”

Inquiry into the capacity of the farming sector to attract and retain young people and respond to an ageing workforce

The Rural and Regional Committee is conducting and Inquiry into Workforce Capacity in the Farming Sector in Victoria and has reported to the Parliament on a range of issues including:

  • attracting and retaining young farmers
  • responding to an ageing workforce
  • recruitment strategies and opportunities
  • skills development and career pathways
  • community capacity and
  • farm family health

Review of Vocational Education & Training fees and funding arrangements

On 4 May 2011, the Essential Services Commission was asked by the Minister for Finance, the Hon Robert Clark, to review the fee and funding model arrangements for Vocational Educational and Training (VET) in Victoria.
