Level 3 – Senior Salesperson

A senior salesperson is likely to be an experienced salesperson involved in co-ordinating a wide range of store operations.

Work undertaken as a senior salesperson includes:

  • using effective merchandising practices
  • calculating store profits and margins
  • co-ordinating a rural merchandising office
  • planning the purchase of goods and services
  • selling agricultural machinery
  • providing leadership in the workplace
  • developing and maintaining a safe workplace and environment

Many senior salespersons have considerable experience in a rural merchandising business. Some have also worked in other retail areas. They have a broad knowledge of rural products and are able to advise farmers about their use.

Senior salespersons usually work closely with other sales assistants and assist in the training of new and inexperienced staff. The national qualification available for a senior salesperson is the Certificate III in Agriculture (Rural Merchandising).

Priority areas for working as a senior salesperson include providing customer service, co-ordinating merchandising practices, purchasing of goods and services, and product knowledge of agricultural goods.
