The horticulture industry is diverse, and broadly covers the fields of nursery (production and retail), arboriculture, landscaping, parks and gardens, floriculture and turf sectors. It also extends into related sectors involving pest and weed management, conservation and revegetation programs, land management, forestry and those more aligned with agriculture such as broadacre cropping.
There are also many specialty and support areas such as plant and soil sciences, entomology (study of insects) and plant pathology.
The industry in Victoria has a total workforce conservatively estimated to be over 11,000, turning over $1.6 billion annually.
Each of the Amenity Horticulture industries has state and/or national peak industry bodies, with some associations dating back several decades.
